Ouch!!

I had to catch a ride this morning to work. The trusty Geo was chillaxin at "Ted's" the mechanics waiting to get it's muffler fixed, new brake pads, & a state inspection. My new boss Janet was nice enough to pick me up. Janet rung me at 5:25 a.m. and said she was on her way. Since she's never been to my house and she was picking me up when it was still dark out I decided to meet her out on the main road to help her find me easier. From my door to the main road is about 300-ish ft give or take 100 ft. Now this isn't my first winter in Logan so I knew that this 300 feet would be just one big sheet of ice masquerading as a road. I grabbed the 2 bags that I take to work everyday. Yes 2, and yes they are the size of small suitcases...gotta be prepared! Don't forget I was also carrying my lunch bag along with the pseudo suitcases. I started walking cautiously but after about 20 feet I slipped. You know that moment when your heart stops, your stomach falls, and you stop breathing? Yeah that's what happened, but yippee I didn't fall! I got my balance and actually thought to myself "good now we got that over with. For sure I won't fall now." I took 3 steps much more cautiously. On the last step I completely lost my footing. The next thing I that entered my conscious was that horrible feeling one gets when one knows that falling is eminent and anything less than an act of God isn't going to stop it. As I crashed onto the ice my bags caught air and went flying all around me. A moment after being completely sprawled out on the ice I gathered myself and my bags, stood up, brushed myself off, & then realized that my right hand was in great pain. Apparently I put it out to break my fall. Bad decision cause it still hurts 12 hours later. My butt also hurt a great deal for a few hours but that pain has alleviated quite a bit. Again I must ask myself "why in the Hell do I live in Logan?" I've been asking myself this exact question for 10 years now. Way to long!!!

On the bright side I did walk the rest of the way to the road without incident. :)

  2. Love this story! I walked with a lady in our ward for about a year - through the winter. One day, I hit a similar ice spot - now you know in the movies, when people fall very exaggeratedly (sp?), with their feet flying way above their heads and they land on their back? That was me . . . with an audience! Oh, it was wonderful. Hope you don't hurt for too long. At least you told a great story!

  3. I am sorry about your car that has the secret love affair with teds. ok so its really not that big of a secret, we all know. So i really think it time you have a talk with her(the car) and let her know it really not a good relationship and its realy not going to work out between her and ted. :D Any how i hope your wrist is felling better. and remeber that i still work the same shift and just down the road so i can still pick you up.

  4. seriously? the funniest part of this story to me is the fact that you take with you two bags and a lunch thingy. i'm thinking, "maaan, i must be so unprepared and i don't even know what i'm not prepared for."

i want to be where ever you and your many bags are in 2012.
